The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V. (Max Planck Society) comprises 80 institutes and research facilities where around 21800 employees, including some 5400 permanently employed scientists, work and conduct basic research of the highest quality at the frontiers of knowledge. Max Planck Institutes provide competitive research conditions for excellent scientists all over the world. The main research fields are biosciences, neurosciences, cognitive sciences, physics, chemistry, astronomy, geosciences, computer sciences and social and cultural sciences. Since 1948, 17 Max Planck researchers have won a Nobel Prize.
